EuroClio Executive Director Stegers and President Boeros Visit Rector Aktekin

Steven Stegers, Executive Director of the European Association of History Educators (EuroClio), and Ute Ackermann Boeros, President of the EuroClio Board, visited Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University (NEVU) Rector Prof. Dr. Semih Aktekin in his office.
During the visit, held as part of the “7th International Congress of Korean War History Teachers,” organized in cooperation with NEVU, the Korean War Legacy Foundation and Anadolu University, EuroClio Executive Director Steven Stegers briefed Rector Aktekin on the activities of EuroClio, which is headquartered in The Hague, the Netherlands. Stegers stated that the association brings together more than 80 organizations from over 45 countries and carries out activities to enhance history and citizenship education. He added that EuroClio attaches importance to critical thinking, multiple perspectives and the effective use of cultural heritage in history education.
Stegers noted that the Congress of Korean War History Teachers, hosted by NEVU, was significant in bringing together history educators from different countries. Expressing EuroClio’s desire to collaborate with NEVU in the fields of history education and cultural heritage, he thanked Rector Aktekin for his hospitality.
Rector Aktekin stated that he closely follows EuroClio’s activities in the fields of history and citizenship education. He explained that, as a university specializing in “Natural and Cultural Heritage Tourism,” NEVU carries out joint projects and activities with its stakeholders to research, preserve and pass on the natural, historical and cultural heritage of the Cappadocia region to future generations, alongside its education and training activities. Emphasizing the importance of conveying history and cultural heritage to younger generations through education, Aktekin stated that cooperation with EuroClio would make significant contributions to history education and cultural heritage studies.
The visit also included discussions on potential joint activities between the two institutions.
