NEVÜ Joins the Prestigious Global Higher Education Network Magna Charta Universitatum
Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University (NEVÜ) Rector Prof. Dr. Semih Aktekin announced that the University has been accepted as a signatory of Magna Charta Universitatum (MCU), one of the world’s most prestigious international higher education initiatives, founded on the principles of academic freedom, institutional autonomy and social responsibility.
Coordinated by the NEVÜ International Relations Office, the application process was successfully completed following an assessment by the Governing Council of the Magna Charta Observatory, and the University’s application was officially approved.

NEVÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Semih Aktekin stated that joining such a prestigious international higher education network, which embraces the principles of academic freedom, institutional autonomy, research integrity and social responsibility, represents a significant achievement in advancing the University’s internationalization vision.
Noting that NEVÜ conducts its education, research and community service activities in line with universal academic values, Aktekin said that becoming an MCU signatory would enhance the University’s international visibility and further strengthen its capacity for academic cooperation.
Aktekin emphasized that NEVÜ, designated by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) as a specialized university in the field of “Natural and Cultural Heritage Tourism,” remains firmly committed to its internationalization efforts. He added that joining the MCU network would provide valuable opportunities to develop academic and scientific cooperation with higher education institutions across the world, share good practices and increase joint initiatives aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
Official Signing Ceremony to Be Held in Lithuania
The official signing ceremony, which NEVÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Semih Aktekin will attend alongside the rectors of other member universities in their traditional academic regalia, will be held as part of the Magna Charta Universitatum Anniversary Events in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, from 14 to 16 October 2026.
The event will bring together university representatives from around the world to discuss current developments in higher education as well as opportunities for international academic cooperation and new partnerships.
NEVÜ Strengthens Its Position in the International Higher Education Community
By joining the MCU network, which includes 17 higher education institutions from Türkiye—including Middle East Technical University, Istanbul Technical University and Boğaziçi University—NEVÜ will further strengthen its position within the international higher education community.
